Engage in the ultimate team building activity by challenging your staff to work together to build a human tower.
The practice of building castells is one of Catalonia’s most iconic cultural touchstones, and one that is unique to this part of Spain. These human pyramids are often visible during public festivals, where they can stretch to 7 storeys tall, and have earned UNESCO heritage status due to their cultural importance.
During this activity, your team will first learn more about the history and importance of this creative expression to Catalonia. After which they will don the traditional faixa waistband (important for gripping), and then – with the help of professional castellers – make their own small castell.
Building a castell requires constant communication, taking responsibility and maintaining absolute trust in one another, making this art form the very paradigm of “teamwork”. The activity demonstrates that when you live by these principles, you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve together in a short space of time.
If you prefer to watch the professionals do it instead, you can book a demonstration by an entire company of castellers. Watching these well-drilled teams work together to build a tower 4, 5 or 6 stories tall is inspiring and incredible to behold.
Prices & Options
A 2-hr human castles workshop with professional instructors costs from €69 per person for 12 people, with discounts for larger groups. The workshop can be done at your hotel, at the beach, or almost any other space.
If you don’t have access to a venue, we can offer you a selection of suitable places, such as Poble Espanyol (The Spanish Village) which has a beautiful courtyard to host the activity.
If you prefer a human castles demonstration by an entire team of professional castellers, in striking traditional dress, let us know and we’ll happily organise it for you.
Good To Know…
The nature of the workshop activity requires a lot of physical contact between team members. However, participants can choose whether to play a more central role, to offer stability from the outer circles, or to participate only as bystanders, if they prefer.
